Pet Care tips
That when you get a pet from a recognized breeder or dealer, it is most likely that along with its registration papers, you will get a small grain like object that is about the size of a grain of rice. This is known as a microchip. A microchip can be implanted into all kinds of animals from reptiles to cats and dogs. It carries a number, which is logged in a database that includes the name and contact information of the owner of the pet.
A microchip like this uses Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology. As the name suggests, it uses Radio waves to transmit information to a device that interprets it. However, in an animal, a microchip is passive – which means that it lies in an animal quietly until it is time to be read.
So what does the chip consist of? A microchip is made up of several components, such as biocompatible glass which encapsulates the device. Within the glass, there is the actual silicon chip which holds relevant information, along with a tuning capacitor and antennae coil. The information on the chip picked can be picked up with the help of these components. Because it is dangerous to have such chip working continuously, it needs a scanner to read the information stored on the chip.
So when it is set to the correct frequency, by means of radio waves transmitted through the capacitor, which is then displayed on the LCD screen. Implanting such a device in an animal sounds terrible, but it isn’t actually. The process doesn’t even require anesthesia and your pet won’t suffer at all. It’s actually like giving a simple injection via a hypodermic needle.
Once released into your pet, it will stay within the layers of your pet’s skin permanently. Having your pet registered and micro chipped is a necessity in today’s day and age. Think of it this way, if your pet is stolen or lost, you will always have the hope of getting it back!
