| Do Teeth Whitening Lights Work? |

You probably heard the buzz generated about teeth whitening with laser beams and other kinds of lights during and after the teeth whitening process. Many people in the dental community seem to be disagreeing with these claims that the lights activate the teeth to become whiter during this process, while some do not notice any difference at all.
The people who invented these light whitening systems make claims that the lights will make the teeth whitening process more effective which will lead to whiter and brighter teeth. Each company that produces these type of light activated teeth bleaching products has different reasons as to how and why the light leads to a better whitening. Most say that the light activates a quicker degradation of the peroxide within the whitener, which leads to the helps the bleaching process by converting the peroxide faster into reactive oxygen free radicals. Basically what this means is that this will speed up the bleaching of your teeth and make the whitening more intense, which will give you better whitening results. This is what they say ofcourse, despite tons of criticism from the dental community which claims otherwise. So do they work or not? I would have to go with what the dental community says.
These types of whitening systems can cost alot of money as well, typically they are done within a dental office and take longer. And just recently dentists have started to question the results, many feel it does not make any difference at all. Also most dentists are claiming that there is no clinical studies that prove these lights even work at all, so from everything we know this is likely a marketing ploy to make money!
Many studies as of late by well respected dentists have shown that just the bleaching ingredients within the teeth whitening products seem to work very well and give better results even without the use of the lights or lasers. They have proven that the effects of the lights and lasers have no effect whatsoever, they proved this by doing tests on individual sides of ones mouth. The study resulted in both sides of the mouth being exactly the same after both whitening procedures. Not only this but they did a follow up examination one year later and the results were still the same. It may be time to reconsider the hype regarding these types of teeth light whitening procedures.
The conclusion was that this type of whitening with lights and lasers was merely a marketing gimmick to make money. Dentists are worldwide are now starting to discontinue using these types of whitening solutions as they are becoming highly skeptical.
So remember, what you see isn't always what you get!
